There are a variety of radiology programs available in New York State for general or specialized practice. To become licensed as a Radiology Technician in the State of New York, besides graduation from an approved one must apply to the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection for a license to practice in this state and pass a written exam. Make sure you understand the difference between radiology technologists and technicians before you begin the research on your school of choice. Since significant revisions to licensing requirements for an x-ray technician in 2008, those seeking to renew an existing rad tech license must now show proof of having met continuing education requirements.

LaGuardia Community College

According to a national survey, LaGuardia is one of three leading community colleges in the U.S. Coordinated by the Health Sciences Department, LaGuardia’s radiologic courses require 67 credits to complete and put students on the right path for an Associate in Applied Science degree. Comprehensive transfer agreements with over 70 public or private colleges are available so students may easily continue their courses and make themselves ready for the National Certification Exam administered by AART.

Mercy Medical Center School of Radiography

Mercy’s two year Rad Tech program has a two-part format. Standard classroom education as well as clinical applications. Accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Radiologic Technology as well as the New York State Department of Health, Mercy’s graduates receive a certificate from the medical center and become eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam of the American Registry of Radiology Technologists.

Nassau Community College

Offering a two-year program that leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree, Nassau combines classroom and clinical education. Accredited by the New York State Department of Health, and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, graduates become eligible to sit for the ARRT exam and become licensed in the State of New York. Nassau offers ample opportunity for career advancement via continuing education at the B.S. degree level.

Molloy’s nuclear medicine technology program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine. Molloy College is one of just a few professional programs in the U.S. to offer a B.S. degree that enables students to take national exams in both Nuclear Medicine and SPECT/CT equipment.
